(April 24, 2024) Our concluding event for the 2023-24 Math Club year is our annual picnic on Saturday, May 11: 10 am -- 1:30 pm at Medium Shelter #2, Colonel Francis Beatty Park (4330 Weddington Road, Charlotte, NC 28277). The club will supply hamburgers (meat & vegetarian), hotdogs, buns, plates, cups, water, ice, etc., but we invite families to augment this fare. Help us plan for the picnic by responding on this picnic signup form.

As of mid-February, we have a new newsletter host: EmailOctopus. Messages have already been shared that should have reached those already on the distribution list. If you received those messages, great! For others, use the form below if you would like to be included on the EmailOctopus distribution list.

Families: Thank you for supplying snacks at our meetings this year. Our students (and leaders!) appreciate how these important social interactions enhance the Saturday morning math club experience.

The Charlotte Mathematics Club was begun in 1987 by Dr. Harold Reiter for the purpose of providing enrichment and challenges for students who have a strong interest and ability in mathematics. The club meets approximately once a month from September to May. At club meetings, students attend the group that best matches their mathematical background.

  • The Elementary Group (formerly MMC) is for our youngest students who are lovers of mathematics, but who have not formally studied algebra. These students are typically in 3rd through 5th grades.
  • The Middle Group is for students who have begun studying algebra and basic geometry. These students are typically in 6th through 8th grades.
  • The Junior Group is for students who have completed a year of algebra, and have a basic knowledge of geometry, number theory, and counting. These students are typically in 7th through 9th grades.
  • The Senior Group is for motivated students in Geometry or a higher level mathematics course. These students are typically in 8th through 12th grades.
